Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

We built Longingme because people needed somewhere honest to put their feelings. We take privacy seriously — not as a legal checkbox, but because what you write here is often the most private thing you've ever said.

This policy is written in plain language. If something is unclear, email us and we'll explain it.

Who we are

Longingme is an independent project created to give people a free, anonymous space for emotional writing and self-reflection. It is not affiliated with any healthcare provider, therapy service, or commercial company.

For any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at: [email protected]

What we collect — and what we don't

We collect as little as possible. Here is everything:

What Where it goes Why
Text you share anonymously Supabase database (encrypted at rest) To show it on the shared wall so others feel less alone
A randomly generated anonymous ID Your browser (localStorage) + our database So you can view your past shared entries. It contains no personal information.
Text you save privately Your browser only (localStorage) It never leaves your device. We cannot see it.
Your name Nowhere We never ask for it
Your email address Nowhere We never ask for it
Your IP address Supabase server logs (standard) Standard server infrastructure logging. We do not use this to identify you.
Cookies None set by Longingme We do not use cookies

We do not sell data. We do not share data. Ever.
No advertisers. No analytics companies. No third-party tracking scripts. Longingme has no business model that depends on your data.

When you share anonymously

If you choose to share something on the public wall, that text is stored in our database hosted by Supabase. It is stored alongside a randomly generated ID — not your name, not your IP address, not any identifying information.

Shared entries are visible to other Longingme users. They cannot be edited after posting. If you need a shared entry removed, email us and we will delete it manually.

Think before you share. Anything posted to the shared wall is visible to other users. Your private entries (saved locally) are never shared unless you explicitly choose to share them.

Your private writing

Private entries are saved in your browser's local storage. This means:

✓ They never leave your device. We cannot read them. No server ever receives them.

✗ They are not backed up. If you clear your browser data, use a private/incognito window, or switch to a different device, your private entries will be gone. Use the "Download my writing" button on your profile page to save a local copy.

Where your data is stored

Shared entries are stored on Supabase infrastructure. Supabase is SOC 2 Type II certified. Our project may use US-based servers. If you are in the EU, this means your data is transferred outside the EEA under standard contractual clauses, which is permitted under GDPR.

We will update this section if we change hosting regions.

How long we keep your data

Shared entries are kept indefinitely — they are the core of the shared wall. If you want a specific entry deleted, contact us and we will remove it within 7 days.

The anonymous ID stored in your browser persists until you clear your browser's local storage.

Your rights

If you are in the EU or UK, you have rights under GDPR including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. Because we hold no names or emails, we cannot verify identity the normal way — but we will work with you.

To exercise any right, email [email protected] with the subject line "Data request." Include the approximate date you posted and any details that help us find your entry. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Hungary, this is the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) .

Crisis content and safety

Longingme scans submitted text for patterns that may indicate someone is in immediate danger. If such patterns are detected, the submission is blocked and crisis resources are shown. This scanning happens entirely in your browser — the text is never sent to any server for safety checks.

Longingme is not a crisis service and cannot guarantee any response time. If you are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or a crisis line directly.

Age

Longingme is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has submitted data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top. We will never make changes that reduce your privacy without making it clearly visible.
